THE VALUE OF DIGITAL ASSESSMENTS

The value of digital assessment tools is to record, collect, and analyze student performance efficiently. It is a way to incorporate relevant technology in the classroom that is an essential component nowadays. It is a way to familiarize students with new forms of technology. It provides an engaging, interactive way to get students involved in their learning. Also, it is a tool that provides many forms of text and can provide students with a variety of forms of information. Another benefit to digital assessment tools is that data can be saved forever and shared with other teachers and administrators in order to better inform our instruction. Lastly, teachers can provide feedback to their students immediately and they can communicate effectively with their students and parents.

KAHOOT

One commonly used form of digital assessment that I use in my classroom is Kahoot. Kahoot is fun and engaging for students and it is easy to use. It is a fast way for teachers to check for understanding and get an idea of content or skills that may need to be retaught or touched on in small groups. Kahoot has a variety of premade tests and quizzes that are already created on many different topics, which saves teachers time from having to recreate the wheel. The only downside to kahoot last year was that we only had seven tablets per classroom, so students had to partner up or work in groups in order to participate in the assessment.

PADLET

In order to implement more individualized digital assessments in the classroom, I would like to use padlet this upcoming school year. I will have a class set of Chromebooks this year, so my students will be able to participate in assessments on their own which will provide me with more accurate scores and individual understanding of the content. Padlet is an interactive board where students can collaborate, discuss, and participate in assessments. Padlet can be used in many different lessons throughout the day and is a effective way to store data for RTI, parent-conferences, and other intervention purposes. Padlet is customizable and is a great way to get students more comfortable taking assessments through the use of technology in the classroom.
